The method
Why one voice in each ear
Dictoterix is the first online learning service built end-to-end around the bilingual-dichotic method: your native language in one ear, the language you're learning in the other, at the same moment.
Left ear
Your language
the anchor
Right ear
New language
the signal
left-hemisphere language cortex
It isn't a trick of the format. Your right ear connects most directly to the language centers of your brain — the right-ear advantage, one of the most replicated findings in the neuroscience of hearing. Dictoterix sends every new phrase to that ear and anchors it with a language you already know on the other side. Sound and meaning arrive together, already paired.
🎧 Best with headphones — that's where the two-ear core lives. On speakers, Dictoterix adapts honestly: learning language in the air, your language on screen.

Watch the word draw itself
The system holds an animated stroke drawing for every word: visual perception reinforces your listening practice, adding a second memory channel that makes words stick. Plus, it's just fun to watch.

Tap a verb in any sentence to unfold its conjugation star — its whole family fanned out by tense and person. It's a reference, not a quiz: look, absorb, close, keep listening.

True-to-level vocabulary
Words you can defend, level by level
Dictoterix teaches you the words that really matter: each level's vocabulary is built from real-world frequency data — the words people demonstrably use — organized along the CEFR ladder.
What's CEFR? CEFR is the Common European Framework of Reference — the A1-to-C1 ladder schools and employers use to describe what a learner can actually do. A1 is your first survival phrases; C1 is arguing about politics over dinner.
Most apps teach “words”. The question that matters is which words — so every level here is measured against a reference inventory of what an A1–C1 learner actually needs.
We describe your vocabulary's depth against each level — we'll never stamp “you are B1” on a human being.
The deep
Meet the creatures of the descent
The mind-cloud that lives on your dashboard doesn't just decorate — it's a place. You can take a break at any time to explore the magic of the dive: drag to turn the creature, drift closer, let the jellyfish pulse past. Learning something hard deserves somewhere beautiful to do it.
✦ This one's alive — the real thing, not a video. — drag it
One session, every angle
A dive is engineered, never random
No practice session is random: every one is composed to reinforce what you know and expand your vocabulary, at a pace set by your own progress. Review pressure and new words are balanced for you — you just press play.

Live practice
A real person on the line — no stress
When you're ready, practice with a living human: match with a partner and text-chat in real time. It's the fastest way to find out the words are actually yours.
Freeze mid-conversation and nothing bad happens. A helper agent sits beside you — ask it to suggest a reply, translate what just arrived, or rephrase what you're trying to say. Only you ever see it. Tap any word your partner sends for an instant translation and a native voice saying it aloud.

A map that lights up as you learn
Every word of your language is a dot on one vast coral fan, growing down into the dark — beginner words in the sunlit shallows, C1 at the deepest tips. Words you've mastered glow. Words you're learning pulse. The rest wait in the dim, and your job is to light the reef.
What to expect
How deep can one year take you?
This is the honest curve, not a marketing one. We ran the app's real session engine through a simulated year of disciplined daily practice — every dive finished, every check passed, every graduation taken. Each curve is a number of dive sessions per day: 5, 10, or 15 short dives, every day. The pace-setter is the method itself: spaced repetition won't let a word graduate overnight, and the intake valve won't flood you.
Shown for English → Spanish, built from the live course vocabulary.
All of this is a mathematical model, not a promise. Every person learns differently — your real progress depends on your effort, your discipline, and the way your own memory works.

- 5 dives/day
- 10 dives/day
- 15 dives/day
This is the app's real session engine, modelled. Your own curve will look different — every person learns differently.

The short honest answers
Which language pairs are supported?
Live right now, straight from the database:
- English → Spanish (Mexico)
- Spanish (Mexico) → English
- Russian → English
- Russian → Spanish (Mexico)
More pairs follow as their vocabularies pass the quality bar.
What does it cost?
The whole course is free forever — every lesson and the entire word corpus, at launch and always. No locked lessons, no trial countdown. A few future extras (like the live helper agent) may one day sit in a premium tier we haven't defined yet, but studying the complete course will never be behind a paywall. That's exactly what we mean when we say it's free and unlimited.
I've studied this language before — will the vocabulary match my level?
Yes, and you set the pace yourself. You start with a quick placement check, and from then on every newly introduced word carries an "I know this" button: tap it and that word moves to your known vocabulary while a different new word takes its place. Within a few sessions the app has tuned itself to exactly what you do and don't know. Words you already know still show up inside practice sentences, so you keep meeting them in context — you just don't spend drill time on them.
Do I really need headphones?
For the two-ear core, yes — that's physics, not policy. Without them, Dictoterix switches to an honest single-channel mode: the learning language out loud, your language on screen. Good practice either way; the dichotic magic needs two ears.
When is voice chat coming?
After launch, in two steps: plain 1-on-1 voice calls first, then live transcription on top. Text chat with real partners is already here.
When will mobile apps be available?
Mobile apps are in the pipeline. The more people we see using this service, the faster we can ship them — tell your friends to join Dictoterix, and let's grow together.
